Registration Fee.

The registration fee for each correspondence course is $155.00. All fees are payable in advance by cash, personal check, money order, VISA or MasterCard. Students owing a past due balance to the University will not be permitted to register for Correspondence Courses until their balance is paid. In the event a check is returned unpaid, there will be a $25.00 charge by the SHSU Business Office. Post-dated checks will not be accepted. No assignments can be accepted unless a student's financial accounts are in order.

Financial Aid Access


The largest source of funds through scholarships, grants, loans, and employment is from federal entities.
For funding to attend college, students must be enrolled in and making academic progress in a program leading to an educational certificate or degree. Students enrolled solely in correspondence courses are NOT eligible for financial assistance.

Veterans and Family Members.

The Hazlewood Act provides assistance for Texas veterans and dependents of Texas veterans who died while performing military service and who have exhausted their federal Veterans Administration benefits. To be eligible, the students must be enrolled in a course that meets the requirements of a component area in the SHSU Core Curriculum or that is applicable toward the student's Official Degree Plan that has been designated within the student's major department.

Transfer to Another Correspondence Course.

A transfer is permitted when a satisfactory reason is offered and approved. A transfer will normally not be approved after two or more lessons have been submitted for grading. Only one transfer per student will be considered. In the event a transfer is granted, the student's original enrollment date will remain in effect. Effective September 1, 1999, the transfer fee is $20.00, (includes a new packet and new bar codes) plus $10.00 per lesson submitted for grading. In the event a transfer is granted, the student's original enrollment date will remain in effect.

Dropping a Correspondence Course.

You may drop a correspondence course anytime before the final examination without academic penalty, and the course will not appear on your official transcript. If you open the final examination envelope, however, you may no longer drop the course and a grade will be assigned. Grades become a permanent part of the student's SHSU record.

Extension of Enrollment Period.

A student may request a one-time extension (6 months). Your course will be extended from the original enrollment date. Effective September 1, 1999, the extension fee is $25.00.

Postage and Handling Fee.

Effective September 1, 1999, one-time special postage and handling fee of $25.00 will be charged to any student taking a correspondence course from a mailing address outside the continental U.S. NOTE: The special postage and handling fee of $25.00 does not apply to students with APO or FPO addresses.

Replacement of Lessons and Materials.

A fee for the replacement of a correspondence course lesson is $1.00 per lesson not to exceed $10.00 for the replacement of all the lessons in a course. The fee for the replacement of bar code labels is $2.50 per set.

Refund Policy. In the event a refund is granted, the following policy will apply:
before the enrollment is complete100 percent

after 4 weeks a refund will not be made.
